Product Info
The Deer Cutter is a hand held friction device made in the shape of a spear point designed to create the sound of a squirrel cutting a nut in the woods. Simply put…the Deer Cutter creates the deception of a safe area in which squirrel are comfortable enough to feed. This is a subconscious sound deer associate with safety. The actual sound can be changed just by the way the device is held in your hand. Take the striker piece and gently drag it across the metal portion of the spear point away from your body holding it at different angles until you get your desired sound. A tight and loose grip on the spear point will also change the pitch of the sound making it versatile. Drag it very quickly. If you spend time in the woods bow hunting you will recognize the sound very quickly and will be able to imitate it in a matter of minutes. We suggest a rhythm...1,2 (pause) 1,2,3, (pause) 1,2,3,4 (pause) 1,2,3 (pause) 1,2 (pause) 1,2,3 at a rate as quickly as you can count.
We have harvested several deer and even a turkey using the device while bow hunting. While using the Deer Cutter we have encountered countless deer and turkey and have many fond memories. Unfortunately that includes a few misses! On numerous occasions we had squirrel climb up the tree we were hunting in and even had a coyote and red fox sneak in on us. We have also had success using it in conjunction with rattling in deer.
It is excellent to use if you are hunting over an area baited with corn or on the edge of a corn field. Simply change the pitch to imitate the sound of a squirrel chewing on corn and again you have created an atmosphere that it is safe enough in the area that squirrel are feeding.
All field tests were conducted in Ohio on private property that was 100% “free chase.” The land had a moderate amount of hunting pressure for deer, squirrel and turkey throughout the year.
We believe you will have more quality hunts by adding the Deer Cutter to your arsenal. No one can predict what you may encounter in the woods. We have found, as with other devices, you do not want to overuse the cutter.
